Moxie has been a topic of growing interest in the Farcaster community, since its launch it has revamped the way interactions are built on the platform, which can lead to many questions. In this blog post, we'll look at what Moxie is, how it changes Farcaster and how onchain users can benefit from it.
What is Moxie?
Moxie is a decentralized protocol built within Farcaster, developed by Airstack. Unlike traditional applications, Moxie is not a client but a protocol that enriches user experiences across various clients, including Warpcast. Its primary mission is to establish a self-sustaining economy driven by user interactions, where every cast, frame, and action can contribute to economic growth within the Farcaster network.
At the core of Moxie is the MOXIE token, an ERC-20 token within the Base blockchain that facilitates transactions and governance within the ecosystem. The protocol introduces Fan Tokens, which represent membership and participation in the Farcaster community. These tokens are designed to be used rather than traded, promoting utility over speculation.
How Moxie Changes the Farcaster Protocol
Moxie fundamentally alters the dynamics of the Farcaster protocol by introducing economic incentives that were previously lacking. Here are some key changes:
- Economic Incentives: Moxie integrates economic mechanisms that reward users for their interactions, creating a more engaging and participatory environment. Users can earn rewards in the form of MOXIE tokens for various actions, such as creating quality content or onboarding new users.

- Fan Tokens: By allowing Members, Channels and Networks to issue Fan Tokens, Moxie creates a tiered membership structure within Farcaster. These tokens enable unique interactions, such as exclusive content access and participation in private groups, enhancing community engagement.

Moxie empowers onchain users in several significant ways:
