Coinbase, the premier cryptocurrency exchange, has unveiled its latest feature: encrypted messaging for wallet-to-wallet communication. This development, which heralds a new level of interactive capabilities for the Coinbase Wallet, provides users with an added layer of privacy and security while performing transactions. Let's understand more about the new feature.
Harnessing the Power of the XMTP Protocol
The new feature is developed based on the XMTP protocol, a promising standard in the Web3 space, known for its secure and decentralized nature. The Coinbase wallet users can now send and receive messages in a fully encrypted format directly between wallets, ensuring a secure and private conversation channel, which is a vital addition in the era of heightened cybersecurity threats.
Aside from messages, users can also transfer money directly to their friends, and even make offers on NFTs!
How to use the new Feature
To get started, it's needed Coinbase Wallet mobile app and a .lens account, or receive an invitation via QR code. Once you’ve downloaded or imported the wallet, you’ll find your inbox located on the ‘Assets’ tab in the Coinbase Wallet app.
Now, you can message your friends either with your ENS handle, Ethereum address, or Coinbase ID, being of your decision choosing what handle you'll use and that the recipients will be able to read.
Beyond Transactions: A New Approach to Blockchain Communication
In addition to providing a more secure transaction experience, the encrypted messaging feature introduces an innovative approach to communication within the blockchain ecosystem. By utilizing the power of blockchain, Coinbase allows users to interact beyond mere transactions, fostering a more integrated and connected crypto community.
Direct messaging is a feature that was missing in the blockchain and XMTP made it possible, now, with Coinbase, the new feature is headed to attract more and more people with the convenience Coinbase offers and the massive number of users the platform already has.
